![]() This meant that there were many rumors about Nymeria that lasted centuries. Two years after Mors' demise, she would eventually subdue Yronwood and finally have control over all of Dorne.īut a woman in a position of power, especially in a land such as Westeros, has never been something that was looked on kindly, either by the big political players or by the lowest populace. Nymeria would remarry twice: first lord Uller of Hellholt, then ser Davos Dayne of Starfall. The biggest blow they suffered was the demise of Mors in a duel against king Yorick Yronwood. The war of Dornish conquest - also called Nymeria's War - lasted a few years, as they had to fight and defeat a number of rivals, from petty lords to people who fashioned themselves kings of their domains. Mors' lands and his military strength weren't that big, so the bulk of House Nymeros Martell's army comprised Rhoynar warriors, who were also skilled armorers and artisans. What followed, of course, was more fighting. Publicly, though, Nymeria very cleverly stated that the burning of the ships was supposed to be a symbol of the Rhoynar finally finding their homes and that now they could at last stop running. What they didn't expect was that their leader would also order the ships they arrived in to all be burned down, to prevent any possible desertions or people returning to Essos. After a long and perilous journey, only some of the ships managed to make landfall on Dorne, the southernmost land of Westeros.įor the Rhoynar, the wedding of Nymeria and Mors Martell meant an important milestone: their running had finally come to an end. Legend tells that her fleet consisted of as many as 10,000 ships, an endeavor that made HBO even consider giving Nymeria and her ships their own Game of Thrones spinoff. She took part in the conflict, but upon learning of her fellow Rhoynar's demise, she decided to gather every ship she could find and set sail to the West with as many women and children she could find, seeing as most of the men had died fighting in the war. The Rhoynish Wars that followed were a doomed endeavor from the start for the locals, and Princess Nymeria knew it. ![]() Eventually, Valyrian conquest led the Freehold to the Rhoyne, one of the mightiest rivers in Essos, and home to the Rhoynar, the people who lived in the cities on its margins. Its expansion engulfed most of the free cities we got to see Daenerys Targaryen ( Emilia Clarke) conquer in Game of Thrones, from Astapor to Meereen. At that time and place, the most powerful nation was the Valyrian Freehold, the official name of the empire of Old Valyria. While it seems like the series is still in its early stages, HBO is doubling down on House Targaryen so we should all buckle up for more blonde wigs and more fire-breathing dragons. The tale of Nymeria begins centuries before House of the Dragon, before even the Doom of Valyria, in the Rhoyne basin. Such a massive paradigm shift in the Seven Kingdoms deserves its own central season, and it seems like HBO sees the potential after the success of their Game of Thrones spin-off. Their centuries-long rule is ripe for adaptation, as there were 284 years between the conquest and the birth of Daenerys Stormborn ( Emilia Clarke), who would write the latest chapter in the family's story and bring dragons back into the world. From Aegon the Conqueror to Aerys "the Mad King" Targaryen, the family's story is one of great triumph and tragedy at every turn. Once watchers had become well-acquainted with the beginnings of the Targaryens in Westeros, subsequent seasons could have covered additional pivotal moments in the family's subsequent years. The opportunity almost seems like too good of a chance to pass up, as it establishes the original forerunners of the Targaryen Dynasty well before its descendants would ever sit on the Iron Throne. The blades laid before Aegon are melted together by Balerion's fire, creating the Iron Throne that would cement the Targaryen Dynasty's status as the highest authority in Westeros. Six of the Seven Kingdoms are crushed, with Dorne being the only kingdom capable of resisting the initial conquest. ![]() Others, like Torrhen Stark, bow to Aegon's dominion and lay down their weapons at the sight of House Targaryen's dragons approaching. Some, like Argilac "the Arrogant" Durrandon, are replaced by House Baratheon. One by one, the mighty kings of Westeros are forced into submission. Balerion the Black Dread, in all his horrific visage, takes to the skies and burns House Hoare alive in Harrenhal, beginning the massive fortress' long history of misfortune. ![]() The trio and their banners land at the mouth of Blackwater Rush, constructing the Aegonfort where the Red Keep in King's Landing now stands. Some of the most vital portions of Westerosi history unfold as Aegon, his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar begin a campaign of Fire and Blood.
